Republicans are rallying behind President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance after the Oval Office meetup that ended with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky being removed from the White House.

Breitbart News reports that, while Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans are attempting to use this situation to land a blow on Trump, just about everyone else is praising Trump for how he handled things.

Take a look at this:

"America First in action"

Among those to come to Trump's defense are several Republican members of Congress. Many praised Trump and Vance, adding that they are proud to have these two individuals leading the country.

"Thank you for standing up for OUR COUNTRY and putting America first, President Trump and Vice President Vance!" U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote.

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) said, "Remember: the U.S. Senate has repeatedly and for years voted BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine with no strings attached and with no true oversight. It’s time for some ACCOUNTABILITY."

U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) put it this way:

Finally we have a President who will speak the TRUTH and stand up against Washington’s endless wars. American taxpayers have been funding this war, it’s time to stop the killing and stop risking World War 3!

And there were many, many more Republicans both inside and outside of Congress who released similar messages.

Background

Zelensky was supposed to meet up with Trump at the White House on Friday in order to sign a mineral rights deal.

The Trump administration has been looking to get something in return for the hundreds of billions of dollars that the United States has given to Ukraine. It has also been looking to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said that the deal would be a solid "first step."

Zelensky, however, seemed to have other ideas. The New York Post reports:

The Oval Office meeting began with warm exchanges and handshakes, with Trump at one point saying of Zelensky: “I think he’s a great guy.” But matters took an ugly turn after Zelensky attempted to explain Russian President Vladimir Putin’s lack of diplomacy to Vance.

This led to a shouting match between Zelensky and Trump and Vance, with the latter two arguing that Zelensky was disrespecting America.

The situation ended with Trump having Zelensky removed from the White House, telling him to come back when he is ready for peace.
