House Republicans have officially sent subpoenas to Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden - part of an effort to get to the bottom of the Biden family's business dealings. 

The chairman of the House Oversight panel, James Comer (KY), sent subpoenas for Hunter to testify on December 13 and for his uncle to testify on December 6.

Comer also subpoenaed Rob Walker, a Hunter Biden business associate who wired $1 million in Chinese money to Biden family members, including Hunter, James, and Hunter's sister-in-law Hallie Biden, with whom Hunter had an affair.

In addition to the subpoenas, Comer requested transcribed interviews with the wives of both Hunter and James Biden, Hallie Biden, Hallie's sister Elizabeth Secundy, and Tony Bobulinski, Hunter's ex-partner who identified Joe Biden as "the big guy."

The White House and its defenders in the Biden-friendly media have dismissed the GOP's investigation as baseless.

Republicans point to a body of evidence, including e-mails, texts, dozens of phone calls between former vice president Biden and his son's business associates, and bank records as evidence of a corrupt foreign lobbying scheme.

Money trail

While Biden and his allies have harped on the absence of a smoking gun, Republicans say the family's complicated money trail shows an intent to hide and deceive.

Republicans have uncovered millions in convoluted wire transfers that passed through shell companies to the Biden family and their associates. Many of the shell companies were formed during Biden's vice presidency.

Recently, Comer has focused on a pair of checks from James Biden to his brother as evidence of money laundering. One of the checks coincided with a large money transfer from China to Biden family members, including James and his wife Sara.

The White House has dismissed the checks as benign loan repayments between family members.

Hunter blasts "stunt"

The evidence gathered to date shows Biden was "sold" around the world "to the benefit of the Biden family, including Joe Biden himself to the detriment of U.S. interests,” Comer said.

“Unlike the many lies President Biden told the American people about his family’s business schemes, bank records don’t lie," Comer said.

Hunter's lawyer Abbe Lowell dismissed the subpoena as a "political stunt."

"Nevertheless. Hunter is eager to have the opportunity, in a public forum and at the right time, to discuss these matters with the Committee."
