Republicans trying for an unexpected Senate pick-up in Nevada

Many observers believe that Republicans have a good chance of  retaking the Senate, with seats in West Virginia and Montana representing likely pick-ups.

What's more, a new report suggests that the party is also attempting to score another success in Nevada as well.

Early vote numbers give Republicans a significant edge

According to NBC News, a GOP super PAC known as the Senate Leadership Fund is planning to spend $6.2 million in support of candidate Sam Brown.

Brown, a decorated Army veteran who was severely wounded while serving in Afghanistan, is squaring off against Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen.

"Jacky Rosen has been a reliable vote for the Democrats’ extreme agenda and is a lackluster candidate," Senate Leadership Fund president and CEO Steven Law was quoted as saying in a statement.

"President Trump is doing very well in Nevada and we think Sam Brown can too," Law added, referring to recent figures on early voting.

Newsweek reported that 159,388 registered Republicans had cast a ballot in Nevada as of last Wednesday compared with just 140,878 Democrats and 97,529.

Brown gains ground despite still lagging behind Rosen in polls

Nevada GOP strategist Jeremy Hughes echoed Law's remarks, telling NBC News, "It might be the best environment Republicans have seen in a presidential year in 20 years."

However, NBC News noted how an AARP survey suggests that Brown faces a tougher fight than Trump does in the Silver State.

While the poll shows Trump as being two points ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris among likely voters, it also has Brown trailing Rosen by 5 points.

Yet as Fox News pointed out, that still represents a significant improvement from the results of an August poll which had Brown 14 points behind his Democratic rival.

Brown campaign spokesperson: "The momentum is on our side"

Reagan Lehman serves as Brown's campaign spokesperson, and she talked up his chances when speaking with the network, saying, "Nevadans are surging to the polls because they know we can do better."

"There is incredible energy on the ground, and working Nevada families are rallying behind Sam Brown’s plan to lower prices, secure the border and make life affordable again," she continued.

"Nevadans have made it clear they are ready for a change, and the momentum is on our side," the spokesperson went on to add.
