Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is reportedly planning to announce his run for president in 2024 with Elon Musk on Twitter Wednesday evening.
DeSantis is anticipated to make the speculation official as he seeks to build on his popularity in the Sunshine State in a battle against former President Donald Trump.

"This forthcoming announcement follows months of speculation and the governor playing it coy, refusing to wholly reveal his political intentions after continued inquiries from various news outlets," Breitbart News reported.
"Initial rumors indicated the governor would not consider announcing until after the Florida legislature’s legislative session, which ended May 5. In the following weeks, DeSantis signed a series of legislation addressing woke transgender ideology being pushed upon children, as well as bills combatting illegal immigration and eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education," it added.

"Along with his announcement, DeSantis is expected to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, which officially launches his GOP presidential campaign," Fox News reported.
"His first national TV interview following the announcement will be with Fox News' Trey Gowdy Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on 'Fox News Tonight,'" it added.

"DeSantis is also expected to release a campaign launch video Wednesday evening before making an initial swing through several early primary and caucus states after Memorial Day on Monday," the Hill reported.
"Musk on Tuesday retweeted a Fox News reporter who posted about the planned Twitter Spaces event. DeSantis’s upcoming discussion with Musk is notable, given that the billionaire Twitter CEO has said he would support the Florida governor should he run for president in 2024," it added.
Even before his announcement, DeSantis has been the only GOP candidate to consistently poll in double digits against Trump.
However, DeSantis is still far behind the former president in most polls, a move he hopes to change with the public announcement.
The GOP battle is about to heat up as both DeSantis and other candidates join the discussion in the quest to become the party's 2024 candidate.
