Ron Kaufman, GOP Power Player With Ties To Trump, Removed From RNC Post

Okay well this isn't exactly what Trump wanted to see.

One of his allies is being removed.

Ron Kaufman, a former treasurer for the Republican National Committee, was recently removed from his post by a narrow 37-35 vote taken at a Republican State Committee meeting on Saturday in a Boston Suburb.

He will remain chair of the gathering unless he is removed by RNC Chair Michael Whatley, according to a source familiar with the situation.

"I’m still national committeeman until the gavel comes down," Kaufman said in a brief interview after the results came in.

The man who collected 37 votes to Ron's 35 was Brad Wyatt, a longtime activist with roots in the Tea Party.

Ron Kaufman had initially made his name in politics working for former President George H.W. Bush, and also advised Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential bid.

Janet Fogarty is Kaufman's counterpart in the national committee. She recently easily won reelection, but spoke about Kaufman not enjoying the same fate.

"He is ‘Mr. RNC,' he’s very powerful on a national level, and he’s the go-to guy for guidance for other states. He brings home the bacon. And he’s always been so humble. Many don’t realize what he does behind the scenes for our state party."

Donald Trump and his family will undoubtedly be disappointed by Kaufman's loss. Kaufman himself had initially not even wanted to run for reelection, but admitted that he was persuaded to try for another term by the "team down in Mar-a-Lago."

Despite Kaufman's ties to Trump, there is a possibility that Donald isn't hurt too bad by the decisions of the winner Brad Wyatt.

Wyatt has previously said that he voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and will be supporting Donald again this fall.

Brad Wyatt was an ardent supporter of Ron Paul's 2012 presidential bid. He helped organize an effort that was able to surprise Mitt Romney in the primaries and give Mitt a run for his money.

We're not knocking Wyatt, but there's no doubt that Ron Kaufman would have been able to do a lot for Trump.

Will Brad be able to do the same?

Only time will tell.
