Rudy Giuliani could be disbarred in Washington DC: Report

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and close ally to former President Donald Trump who was heavily involved in legal efforts to challenge the 2020 election results, received bad news this week.

According to The Hill, Giuliani, also a lawyer, could lose his ability to practice law in Washington D.C., if a panel on the D.C. bar gets its way.

The bad news came after a special committee assembled by the D.C. bar issued a report condemning Giuliani's post-2020 election efforts.

The panel decided that Giuliani had no legal standing to challenge the results of the election in certain areas, and recommended he be disbarred.

Scathing report

In its report, the panel insisted that the former NYC mayor forfeited his ability to practice law due to his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

The report concluded that Giuliani "seriously undermined the administration of justice" by bringing a lawsuit "seeking to change the result of the 2020 presidential election when he had no factual basis, and consequently no legitimate legal grounds, to do so."

It added: "The right to vote is the ‘essence of a democratic society.’ Respondent’s frivolous lawsuit attempted unjustifiably and without precedent to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania voters, and ultimately sought to undermine the results of the 2020 presidential election. He claimed massive election fraud but had no evidence of it."

Giuliani was one of several high-profile attorneys assisting Trump's legal team at the time. The efforts included challenging the election results in multiple levels of the court system in multiple states.

None of the dozens of challenges launched by Trump's army of lawyers produced any results, with many of the lawsuits tossed out by federal and state judges.

"By prosecuting that destructive case Mr. Giuliani, a sworn officer of the Court, forfeited his right to practice law. He should be disbarred," the D.C. panel decided.

What happens next?

Guiliani, who has fought to retain his license to practice law, will have his fate revealed after the matter is sent to the bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility for the next level of determination.

From there, it will likely go to the D.C. Court of Appeals.

"This is also part of a larger effort to deny President Trump effective counsel by persecuting Mayor Giuliani—objectively one of the most effective prosecutors in American history," said Ted Goodman, a spokesman for Giuliani.

Only time will tell if Giuliani loses his law license, but it doesn't appear that the anti-Trump left will stop until all of Trump's allies are ruined.
