Many major American cities have grown more dangerous in recent years, with a high-profile example of that phenomenon coming this week.
According to The Epoch Times, a major figure in the tech industry died early Tuesday morning after being stabbed in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) revealed that 43-year-old Bob Lee sustained multiple stab wounds early in the Rincon Hill neighborhood.
"Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries," a statement from SFPD was quoted as saying.
"Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries," the statement went on to add.
The Times noted that Lee created a mobile payment service known as Cash App and also formerly served as chief technology officer of the credit card processing company Square.
In November of 2021, Lee became the chief product officer at MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency company based in San Francisco.
Joshua Goldbard is CEO of MobileCoin, and he provided a statement to ABC 7 that read, "Bob was a force of nature. Helped to birth Android and CashApp into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy-protecting wallet for the 21st Century. I will miss him every day."
Bill Barhydt is CEO of the crypto wallet company Abra, and he spoke up as well, calling news of Lee's death "devastating."
"Bob was a dad, the former CTO of Square where he created Cash App [and] CTO of Mobile Coin," Barhydt said in a tweet, adding, "He was a generous decent human being who didn’t deserve to be killed."

Fox News host Tucker Carlson covered Lee's murder on Tuesday's broadcast of his show, arguing that it is emblematic of San Francisco's decline.
