A North Carolina man was reportedly arrested last year after allegedly threatening to shoot up a daycare center full of young children near where he lived, according to The Messenger.

Now, court documents filed in that case further allege that Kevin Douglas of Cary, North Carolina, also made threats to kill President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and former first lady Michelle Obama, among others.

It remains unclear when or even if Douglas will face prosecution for the multiple death threats, however, as he has since been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Threatened to kill children at nearby daycare center

In early November, Eastern District of North Carolina U.S. Attorney Michael Easley announced that Kevin Edral Douglas, 46, had been arrested by local police and then rearrested by federal authorities over threats he'd recently made to kidnap and/or shoot to injure or kill children at a daycare center located near a long-term motel he was residing at.

The threats had been received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which passed them along to the proper law enforcement authorities to be investigated.

"The swift action by the Cary Police Department to mitigate this threat helped to keep the community safe," U.S. Attorney Easley said in a statement at that time. "We are proud to partner with Chief Terry Sult and FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of threats of violence before action is taken.”

Revealed to have also made threats against political figures

According to North Carolina's WRAL News, documents filed in court on Wednesday revealed that Douglas had done more than just threaten to kidnap or kill the young children at the nearby daycare center in October and had also issued earlier death threats against several prominent political figures.

That included threats made in August and September in messages posted on the White House website to shoot and kill President Biden, Vice President Harris, former Speaker McCarthy, and former first lady Obama, among others.

However, U.S. Attorney Easley, during a press conference in November, said that authorities had determined that Douglas' threats were likely not credible and that a search of the motel room he had been living in had not turned up any weapons.

Diagnosed with schizophrenia and deemed incompetent to stand trial

Local CBS affiliate WNCN reported this week that after Douglas was arrested and charged in November with cyberstalking and communicating threats, questions were raised about his mental health and he was ordered by a judge to undergo a psychological evaluation and determine if he was competent to stand trial and understood the nature of the charges against him.

The full evaluation report has been sealed for privacy reasons, but the court documents filed this week nonetheless revealed that Douglas had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and deemed incompetent to stand trial -- at least for the time being.

The psychologist who performed the evaluation recommended treatment, so the court ordered Douglas to be hospitalized and monitored for four months, after which he would be reevaluated ahead of an April court date to determine if he was still incompetent or was able to stand trial for his criminal actions.

Had made threats against others over past two decades

The outlet noted that, according to federal prosecutors, Douglas had a lengthy history of making threats against others as far back as 2002.

In fact, he even previously served time after calling the British Embassy in Washington D.C. in 2016 and threatening to blow up the building with explosives and kill everybody inside of it.
