Schumer on impeachment: ‘Trump is violating rule of law’

President Donald Trump has been under a microscope by those on the left, but it hasn't seemed to slow down the presidential march toward the administration's goals.

The once-amiable nature of politics in Washington, which included any assumption about fellow politicians' best intentions, has gone by the wayside.

That is seen no clearer than in the consistent attempts to impeach Trump, both in the last administration and now, apparently, in this one.

Because of the system-disrupting nature of the administration, impeachment is rearing its ugly head in Washington, once again.

The Big Question

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who was formerly the head of the upper chamber majority, spoke to this very issue during a recent interview, as Breitbart News reported.

Schumer was questioned on Sunday's "State of the Union" about whether Congressional Democrats were persuing the nuclear option.

Host Dana Bash queried, “Your colleague from Georgia, Senator Jon Ossoff told voters at a town hall that he strongly agrees that President Trump should be impeached.

"Do you agree with him? Would that be a priority if Democrats were to take back Congress?”

The Answer

Schumer didn't mince words, saying, “Well, look, right now, President Trump is violating rule of law in every way and we’re fighting him every single day in every way."

"And our goal is to show the American people over and over again, whether it’s the economy, whether it’s tariffs, whether it’s Russia and overseas and whether it’s rule of law, how bad he is.

The longtime New York lawmaker went so far as to say that he considered it a crucial part of what he was elected to do to oppose Trump:

"And you know, it’s two years it’s too far away to predict. Our job is day to day to show who Trump is, what he is doing, and it’s having an effect, as your polls show.”

When asked if he was ruling it out, he said ht was "too far away to even judge," but he also wouldn't rule it out, when asked outright.

Other Dems' Take

Some Democrats don't believe that the reaction to Trump has been harsh enough, including two-term Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

In a speech before New Hampshire Democrats on Sunday, the governor railed against the "do nothing political types" who he believes are handing over power to Republicans.

“Those same do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on our defense of Black people and trans kids and immigrants — instead of their own lack of guts and gumption,” Pritzker said.

“We need to knock off the rust of poll-tested language, decades of stale decorum. It’s obscured our better instincts,” Pritzker said.
