For several months now, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has consistently been rumored to be at or near the top of former President Donald Trump's list of prospective vice presidential candidates.

On Wednesday, Scott appeared to confirm during an interview that he was under consideration, if not already the chosen one, to be Trump's running mate in this year's election, the New York Post reported.

The possible admission from the South Carolina senator came during a discussion about the recent agreement between the Trump and Biden campaigns for a couple of debates over the summer, with Scott insinuating that he would be a participant in a vice presidential debate.

Scott insinuates he'll be a participant in future VP debate

Sen. Scott spoke on Wednesday with Newsmax host Eric Bolling, during which he predicted that former President Trump would easily defeat President Joe Biden in a June 27 debate hosted and moderated by CNN.

Toward the end of the segment, according to Townhall, Bolling said, "But I have a hunch that there might be a vice presidential debate, and I don't know, maybe [Vice President] Kamala Harris will be debating Senator Tim Scott on that one, and I would be honored to moderate that one."

"I hear there’s a debate in July," Scott replied. "If you’re the guy moderating, maybe I’ll be talking to you. We’ll see what happens."

As the segment ended, Bolling asked Scott directly if he would be the "new vice president," to which the senator laughed and said, "We’ll see, we’ll see."

CBS to host VP debate in July or August

On Thursday, CBS News reported that the Biden campaign had agreed to accept the network's proposal to host a vice presidential debate involving VP Harris, which would be tentatively scheduled for either July 23 or August 13.

Per that report, the Trump campaign had not yet publicly accepted the network's proposed debate of Trump's as-yet-unnamed running mate against the incumbent vice president.

Brian Fallon, Harris' campaign communications director, told CBS News, "We look forward to the Trump campaign accepting one of these dates so that the full debate calendar for this campaign can be set."

Scott spoke previously about desire to debate VP Harris

Interestingly enough, this was not the first time that Sen. Scott has talked to Newsmax host Bolling about a debate against VP Harris, as he expressed his desire to do exactly that during an interview in March.

"[Biden] made a mistake with Kamala Harris when he chose her," Scott said at the time. "He also made a mistake with Kamala Harris when he made her the border czar. I can't think of someone who spent less time on the border than Kamala Harris."

Using a collective "we," the Trump campaign surrogate continued: "What we know is we'd love to debate her about the crisis at our border. We'd love to debate her about the 70,000 Americans who lost their lives because Joe Biden has allowed our southern border to be insecure, unsafe, and wide open."

"I'd love to debate her on the economy. I'd love to debate her about our streets," Scott added of Harris. "And I'd love to debate her about why it is that Donald Trump signed the monumental opportunity zone legislation that brought in $70 billion to the poorest communities, and what has Joe Biden and Kamala Harris done for the poorest communities? Nada."
