Second Grammy win for Michelle Obama handed out on Sunday

On Sunday, at the preshow for the Grammy Awards, a former first lady was awarded a Grammy in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for the audiobook of her self-help-style biography, "The Light We Carry," which was released in 2022.

Meryl Streep and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are among the other high-profile nominees for the Grammy Award, but Michelle Obama has achieved the distinction of winning the award twice, as The Hill reported.

Streep,  was one of the contenders in this category. Other nominees were actor William Shatner and veteran music producer Rick Rubin. Obama was awarded a Grammy in the Spoken Word Album category for her narration of the book "Becoming," which is expected to be a bestseller in 2020.

Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama are now tied for the most Grammys won, with Michelle Obama's most recent victory.

In both 2006 and 2008, the former commander-in-chief brought home an award for the category of Best Spoken Word Album.

Other politicians who have won awards …

The Grammys have been won by a number of notable politicians throughout the course of history. In the category of best spoken-word album, Jimmy Carter has been awarded three Grammys, as Business Insider reported.

According to the official website of the Grammy Awards, the former president has been nominated for and received nine nominations for the award for best spoken-word album.

The recordings of his books "Faith — A Journey For All" in 2019, "A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety" in 2016, and "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis" in 2007 were the ones that earned him the award.

Everett M. Dirksen, who had previously served as one of the Senate Minority Leaders, was awarded a Grammy for a rendition of his poem "Gallant Men."

According to the website of the Grammy Awards, Dirksen, who was a Republican senator from Illinois, was awarded the Grammy in 1968 for her work in the category of best spoken word, drama, or documentary album. Additionally, in 1971, he was the recipient of a nomination for his spoken-word CD titled "Everett Dirksen's America."

Clintons' awards …

Two spoken-word Grammys are held by Bill Clinton, one for a children's book and the other for his memoir.

Clinton's narrated children's book "Peter and the Wolf: Wolf Tracks" earned him his inaugural Grammy in 2004. According to the Grammys, the audiobook of his presidential memoir, "My Life," earned best spoken-word album the following year.

"Back To Work: Why We Need Smart Government For A Strong Economy" and "Giving: How Each Of Us Can Change The World" were two additional Grammy nominations received.

In 1997, Hillary Clinton was present at the Grammys to receive the award for best spoken-word album.

The Grammys state that the recording of her nonfiction book "It Takes A Village" earned the then-first lady an award, and in 2004, she received another nomination for the audiobook adaptation of her memoir "Living History."
