A member of the U.S. Secret Service has just been placed on leave.

Breitbart News reports that the Trump administration placed the agent - identified as Anthony Pough - on leave after he released messages seemingly approving the assassination of Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk.

It is expected that the individual will, at some point, also be fired.

Kirk deserved to die??

This, believe it or not, is what Pough seemed to argue in a message that he posted to Facebook, shortly after the assassination of Kirk.

Breitbart, separately, reports on the post. Pough wrote:

If you are Mourning this guy .. delete me. He spewed hate and racism on his show. At the end of the day, you answer to GOD and speak things into existence. You can only circumvent karma, she doesnt [sic] leave.

Susan Crabtree of Real Clear Politics has done further reporting on this incident. According to her, Pough's message was circulated through the Secret Service community.

Crabtree reports:

The Secret Service agent's post is circulating in the Secret Service community with some agents upset over his sentiments because he appears to be celebrating the death of a political figure, and one whom the president is honoring with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and has often had by his side at events over the last several years.

One agent is quoted as saying, "If that's all it takes to set you off, that's dangerous to have around. I'm mostly concerned about the morals of a person sworn to protect the rights of others to engage in politics and exercise free speech, celebrating the death of someone exercising those same rights."

Pough placed on leave

As mentioned at the outset, Pough has been placed on administrative leave by the Trump administration. His security clearance has also been revoked.

Breitbart reports:

Secret Service Director Sean Curran addressed the matter in a memo to staff Thursday night, writing that politically motivated attacks in the United States are “increasing — seemingly every day” and that employees “must be focused on being the solution, not adding to the problem.” Curran reminded personnel that agents swear an oath to conduct themselves “with the highest standards of conduct on and off duty” and that any actions drawing the wrong kind of attention compromise the trust required to carry out the agency’s mission.

The Secret Service has also released a public statement on the matter.

It reads, "The U.S. Secret Service will not tolerate behavior that violates our code of conduct. This employee was immediately put on administrative leave, and an investigation has begun."

It is expected that the investigation will conclude with Pough's termination.
