The U.S. Secret Service has made some big changes to former President Donald Trump's security plan. 

This comes, according to Fox News, in the wake of the assassination attempt that was carried out on Trump last month.

Seemingly as the result of egregious security failures by Secret Service leadership, Trump took a bullet to the ear, while speaking at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania.

But, before a sniper could take the shooter out, the shooter also managed to claim the life of one rallygoer - Corey Comparator - while seriously injuring others.

Background

The reader may remember that, in the aftermath of the assassination attempt, the Secret Service tried to get Trump to stop doing outdoor rallies, which have become a hallmark of Trump's campaign.

At the time, the New York Post reported:

Since the July 13 shooting in Butler, Pa., Secret Service officials have communicated the agency’s concerns about large outdoor events featuring Trump to his campaign advisers, encouraging them to no longer hold the 78-year-old Republican nominee for president’s rallies out in the open . . .

Trump, however, wasn't having it.

"I WILL CONTINUE TO DO OUTDOOR RALLIES, AND SECRET SERVICE HAS AGREED TO SUBSTANTIALLY STEP UP THEIR OPERATION. THEY ARE VERY CAPABLE OF DOING SO. NO ONE CAN EVER BE ALLOWED TO STOP OR IMPEDE FREE SPEECH OR GATHERING!!!" Trump wrote.

The question, though, is given what happened in Butler, could the Secret Service actually protect Trump at these rallies? It would seem that the Secret Service, itself, had doubts about this considering that it asked Trump to stop them.

Now, it would appear that the Secret Service has come up with a way to protect Trump at outdoor rallies.

"Former President Trump will have bulletproof glass surrounding his podium for outdoor events going forward, a federal law enforcement source briefed on the planning told Fox News," the outlet reports.

It adds, "Indoor events, meanwhile, will not involve the same level of protection, the source confirmed."

To this day, there remain significant questions about the assassination attempt on Trump. Even some of the most basic questions - such as how exactly the shooter managed to get past Secret Service agents to access the perfect perch from which to launch the attack on Trump - remain unanswered.

Accordingly, there remains the question of whether this was just a really bad failure by the Secret Service or whether this was something far worse.
