Sen. John Fetterman faces hate from progressives over Israel, border comments

Freshman Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman triumphed over Republican challenger Mehmet Oz two years ago, partly due to enthusiastic support from progressive voters.

However, some of those same progressive voters have been dismayed to learn that the left-wing champion they backed is now officially gone.

Fetterman slams anti-Israel demonstrators as "pathetic" in social media post

Politico contributor Holly Otterbein made that case in an article published on Wednesday. As evidence, she pointed to how Fetterman has become one of Israel's "most vocal supporters" in the Senate.

An example of that came earlier this month when Fetterman excoriated anti-Israel demonstrators in a post on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

"They could be protesting Hamas," Fetterman wrote in response to footage of a mob that had gathered outside of a Jewish-owned business in Philadelphia.

"Only one side has used civilians as human shields" in Gaza war

"They could be protesting Hamas' systematic rape of Israeli women and girls or demanding the remaining hostages be immediately released," he continued.

"Instead, they targeted a Jewish restaurant. It's pathetic and rank antisemitism," the Democratic senator went on to conclude.

Fetterman also defended Israel in an interview with Otterbein, stating, "I grieve, and it’s awful the incredible civilian deaths and the suffering. It’s awful. War is hell, as they say."

"But only one side has used civilians as human shields. Only one side has broken the cease-fires," the senator pointed out.

"Only one side will systematically rape, torture and mutilate Israeli women and girls in the most unspeakable, awful ways," he added.

Fetterman breaks with other Democrats in denouncing border crisis

What's more, Fetterman recently broke with his left-wing colleagues over immigration, telling Politico, "I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border."

"It’s a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage," Fetterman insisted, adding, "You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border."

Meanwhile, Fetterman complained to The New York Times that his positions have resulted in hostility, saying, "What I have found out over the last couple years is that the right, and now the left, are hoping that I die."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
