Conservatives were disappointed in November of 2022 when Democrat John Fetterman managed to beat Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania's Senate race.

However, Fox News noted that  Fetterman has started to get respect from the GOP after signaling that he is done with the far left.

Fetterman condemns anti-Israel demonstrators

One issue on which the freshman senator has broken with progressives is Israel's response to last year's terror attack by Hamas which left 1400 people dead and hundreds more kidnapped.

As Fox News pointed out, Fetterman has shown patience for public demonstrations by ani-Israel demonstrators, some of which have turned violent.

"They're blocking tunnels, they're blocking roads," the network quoted Fetterman as saying during a recent speech at the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center in Washington, D.C.

"Why?" he demanded. "Why aren’t they protesting, 'When will we get the hostages back home?' Why aren't they protesting Hamas? Why aren't they protesting systemic rape and torture of Israeli women and children?"

Senator says Biden needs to control the border

Toby Dershowitz serves as managing director of FDD Action, and he told Fox News that the senator's "comments reflect that he recognizes that some in his party seek to cloak their anti-Israel sentiment in progressive clothes, but he’s not buying it."

"He understands that supporting Israel’s security is supporting U.S. security in this very turbulent region, a position long advocated by Congress on both sides of the political aisle," Dershowitz added.

Israel isn't the only matter on which Fetterman has broken with other members of his party, as he has also voiced criticism of President Joe Biden's border policy.

"I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border. It's a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage," Fetterman said in an interview with Politico last month.

He went on to cite U.S. Customs and Border Protection figures which show that there were nearly 270,000 encounters with illegal migrants in September alone, stating, "You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border."

Recognition from Donald Trump Jr.

Meanwhile, Fetterman's recent condemnation of South Africa decision to indict Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice did not go unnoticed by Donald Trump Jr.

"How is it possible that John Fetterman in the last few months has seemingly become more based than half of the senate GOP?" Trump asked in a post on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.
