Members of the U.S. Senate have just confirmed President Donald Trump's pick to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

Fox News reports that the vote, confirming Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine, came during the very early hours of Friday morning.

The final tally ended up being 60 to 25, with 15 Democrats crossing the aisle to support Trump's nominee.

This is being considered as another victory for Trump and Senate Republicans.

"Rasin was instrumental..."

It was toward the end of February that Trump nominated Caine for the position of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Trump, according to a separate report by Fox, announced Caine's nomination in a late night social media post.

Trump wrote:

Today, I am honored to announce that I am nominating Air Force Lieutenant General Dan “Razin” Caine to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Caine is an accomplished pilot, national security expert, successful entrepreneur, and a “warfighter” with significant interagency and special operations experience.

The president went on to explain how Caine had been instrumental to his first administration.

He wrote:

During my first term, Razin was instrumental in the complete annihilation of the ISIS caliphate. It was done in record setting time, a matter of weeks. Many so-called military “geniuses” said it would take years to defeat ISIS. General Caine, on the other hand, said it could be done quickly, and he delivered.

He's in

Caine's confirmation, according to the Associated Press, took place in the middle of the night.

Per the outlet:

Caine’s confirmation in the middle of the night, just before the Senate left town, comes as Republicans have been quickly advancing Trump’s nominees and as Democrats have been trying to delay the process and show that they are fighting Trump’s policies. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., set up the early morning vote after Democrats objected to speeding up procedural votes on the nomination.

This all took place about two months after Trump fired Caine's predecessor, Gen. CQ Brown Jr.

Trump, at the time, said:

I want to thank General Charles “CQ” Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country, including as our current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish a great future for him and his family.

Nonetheless, some on the left have claimed that Trump may have had some ulterior motives for the firing.
