While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is no stranger to headlines, the 74-year-old New York Democrat recently gained attention for an unexpected reason.

Schumer's office revealed on Wednesday that he had been taken to an emergency room after suffering from dehydration.

Lawmaker grew "lightheaded" while exercising at the gym

According to Breitbart, that admission came in the form of a statement released on Wednesday, which read, "Leader Schumer was at the Senate gym this morning and got lightheaded."

"Out of an abundance of caution, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration and is now back at work in the Capitol," it explained.

The statement went on to declare that the Senate minority leader "wants to remind everyone to drink some water and stay out of the heat."

Breitbart pointed out that Washington, D.C. was placed under a heat advisory on Wednesday afternoon which remained in effect until 9:00 p.m.

Schumer plans to meet with Democrats' New York City mayoral nominee

Schumer's hospitalization came the same day that far-left New York Democratic Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani won his party's primary in New York City's mayoral race.

Politico reported that Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) both congratulated Mamdani and agreed to meet with him.

"I have known [Mamdani] since we worked together to provide debt relief for thousands of beleaguered taxi drivers [and] fought to stop a fracked gas plant in Astoria," Schumer wrote in a social media post.

However, Politico noted that neither Schumer nor Jeffries actually endorsed Mamdani, who self-identifies as a "democratic socialist."

Critics warn that Mamdani will bring "anti-Israel chaos" to New York City

That is likely due to Mamdani's ideological radicalism, including when it comes to the state of Israel, something which has been highlighted by the antisemitic watchdog group Canary Mission. It warned voters that "a vote for Mamdani is a vote for anti-Israel chaos in NYC."

The organization recalled in a press release it put out early this month how in 2023, "Mamdani was arrested for 'disorderly conduct' while participating in an anti-Israel protest and blocking traffic outside a senator's home."

What's more, Canary Mission went on to accuse the Democratic mayoral candidate of having also "expressed support for anti-Israel organizations and anti-Israel agitators."
