Senate rejects Democrat amendment inspired by Kilmar Abrego Garcia

The Senate shot down a Democrat amendment Thursday that was inspired by Salvadoran illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

The resolution, which failed 50-45, would have forced the Trump administration to report on "human rights" in El Salvador, which has received alleged gang members deported by the Trump administration. The failed amendment would have also required Trump to show he is complying with court orders to bring Abrego Garcia back to America.

The purpose of the forced vote was to show that Trump is violating due process with his summary deportations, but instead the amendment just reminded the public of Democrats' perverse sympathy for foreign criminals.

Senate votes 50-45

Maryland senator Chris Van Hollen (D), one of the amendment's sponsors, described Abrego Garcia as one of his "constituents" in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday.

Indeed, Van Hollen recently traveled to El Salvador to lobby for Abrego Garcia's return to the United States. But there was a hint of caution from Van Hollen as he went to bat for Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member, wife beater, and human trafficker, on the Senate floor on Thursday.

"I have made very clear from the start that I’m not vouching for Kilmar Abrego Garcia,” Van Hollen said Thursday.

“I am vouching for his rights, because if you deny his rights, you put in jeopardy the rights of everybody who resides in the United States of America.”

Republicans did not let Van Hollen off the hook so easily, though.

"Senator Van Hollen says he does not ‘vouch’ for Garcia, yet he’s one of many Democrats who visited Garcia in El Salvador,” Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wy.) said. "What they’re proposing is to shield illegal immigrant criminals from deportation and help them evade arrest.”

Dems double down

Democrats forced the vote using something called a privileged resolution. The vote failed along party lines, with Republicans rejecting the amendment and Democrats in favor.

While Democrats claim they are really about principles and not defending criminals, their concern for "due process" was conspicuously absent when millions of illegal aliens flooded into the country during the Biden era.

And while Democrats pour their hearts out for Abrego Garcia, they showed no sympathy for Americans like Laken Riley who were brutally murdered by Biden's illegal aliens.

Democrats seem to think they can score a political victory by forcing Republicans to defend Trump's deportation agenda. But Republicans can only be too happy that Democrats are continuing to brand themselves as the party of crime and chaos.
