Fox News host and decorated veteran Pete Hegseth made headlines several weeks ago last month when President-elect Donald Trump nominated him to lead the Department of Defense.

Hegseth has faced a number of anonymous allegations concerning his behavior involving alcohol and women. Yet in a development sure to leave Trump beaming, multiple female senators have come to Hegseth's defense.

Marsha Blackburn: Hegseth is "more than qualified"

According to Breitbart, one of them is Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn who spoke with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo about the nominee.

"He is more than qualified to assume the role of Secretary of Defense," Blackburn told Bartiromo during an interview on Tuesday.

"He gets this. He has experience, not only as a war fighter, but in business and in messaging," the senator insisted before adding that Hegseth "is a perfect fit."

Blackburn put out a similar message one day earlier in a social media post, writing, "I’ve spoken with Pete Hegseth about his military background and business experience. He is more than qualified to assume the role of Secretary of Defense."

Shelley Moore Capito says she and Hegseth have "shared priorities"

Blackburn is not alone in voicing support for Hegseth's nomination, as West Virginia Republican Sen. Shelley Moore Capito did so as well in a social media post of her own.

Capito declared that "was glad for the opportunity to meet with [Donald Trump's] nominee to lead the [Department of Defense], [Pete Hegseth].

"Pete and I discussed his vision for the Department as well as our shared priorities of restoring U.S. military deterrence and attracting more patriotic young Americans to military service," she continued.

The West Virginia lawmaker then went on to "thank Pete for his years of service in uniform and dedication to our country."

Tommy Tuberville calls Hegseth "very, very smart"

Not all of Hegseth's supporters have been women, as ABC News reported that Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville is backing him too.

"I've known him for a while," Tuberville told reporters on Monday. "Pete's the type of guy that he's going to work. He's got a great work ethic. He's very, very smart. He understands the business side as well as the military side."

"He's actually fought in wars. He is a good age too. Somebody that can relate to the young men and women that we need to recruit in the military," Tuberville asserted.
