In a moment which left fans horrified, Welsh soccer star Tom Lockyer collapsed after suffering an on-field heart attack.

According to the Daily Caller, the incident occurred on Saturday as Lockyer's Luton Town F.C. squared off in a match against A.F.C. Bournemouth.

Lockyer taken away on a stretcher

Luton Town F.C. posted a statement to the social media platform previously known as Twitter regarding Lockyer, who serves as the team's captain.

"Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher," Luton Town F.C. explained.

"He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides," the statement continued.

Other teams express support

"Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside," it added.

The statement concluded by voicing gratitude to Luton Town F.C.'s fans for their support and concern on behalf of Lockyer.

Other soccer teams spoke up as well, including West Ham United, which declared, "Everyone at West Ham is relieved to hear that Tom is in a stable condition following today’s concerning scenes. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery, Tom."

Some wonder if COVID vaccine was a factor

Video footage from the game on Saturday shows players from both teams rallying around Lockyer after he fell.

Meanwhile, some social media users suggested that Lockyer's heart attack could be linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.

"Remember folks, when you see Pro Athletes like Tom Lockyer suddenly and unexpectedly collapse, it's rude to ask if they were vaccinated or not," one user wrote.

The user added, "That question was only appropriate to ask a few years back when people wanted to go to a bar, restaurant, funeral or keep their jobs."

That's a good point.
