Social Security staff undermine efforts aimed at cutting off benefits to illegal migrants

Breitbart reported late last week that the Trump administration has begun cutting off Social Security payments to illegal migrants.

However, the website noted that federal bureaucrats have attempted to undermine the endeavor by leaking to the media.

Social Security Administration official fired following clash

According to Breitbart, over "a dozen current and former Social Security Administration officials" provided information to the Washington Post.

"Greg Pearre, who oversaw a staff of hundreds of technology experts, had pushed back on the Trump administration’s plan to move the migrants’ names into a Social Security death database, eliminating their ability to legally earn wages and, officials hoped, spurring them to leave the country," a Post article read.

"In particular, Pearre had clashed with Scott Coulter, the new chief information officer installed by Elon Musk," it continued.

"Pearre told Coulter that the plan was illegal, cruel and risked declaring the wrong people dead, according to three people familiar with the events," the article explained.

White House says change will encourage illegal migrants "to self-deport"

It went on to say that Pearre's "objections did not go over well with Trump political appointees," something which resulted in him being escorted out of his office by security guards.

What's more, the Post article detailed how Pearre was not the only Social Security Administration official to depart from his position.

It stated that a second unnamed resigned over allegations that cutting off illegal migrants from Social Security is "an illegal attempt to repurpose the agency for immigration enforcement."

However, The Hill reported that White House spokesperson Liz Huston defended the move as being essential to combating illegal immigration.

"President Trump promised mass deportations and by removing the monetary incentive for illegal aliens to come and stay, we will encourage them to self-deport," she insisted before adding that Trump "is delivering on his promise he made to the American people."

Acting IRS commissioner resigned over information sharing deal with ICE

The Trump administration hasn't only clashed with Social Security Administration bureaucrats over immigration, as it has also faced resistance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

CNN reported earlier this month that acting IRS Commissioner Melanie Krause resigned over an agreement reached between Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The agreement permits Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to access tax information concerning criminal illegal immigrants who have refused to leave the country within 90 days of a final removal order.
