Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is facing growing calls for his resignation over health concerns.

According to the New York Post, those calls are coming after McConnell trailed off and appeared to freeze up last week while speaking with reporters on Capitol Hill.

Trump calls for new GOP Senate leader

Among those sounding the alarm is former President Donald Trump, who was quoted as telling Breitbart that it was "sad" to see the 81-year-old senator in apparent distress.

When asked whether it is time to find a replacement for McConnell as Senate minority leader, the former president responded by saying, "We have to have that."

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley spoke up as well, telling CBS News' "Face the Nation" on Sunday, "We've got to have a new generation."

Nikki Haley: "We need new generational leaders"

"We’ve got to stop electing people because we like them and they’ve been there a long time. That’s actually the problem," Haley insisted.

"What I’m saying about Mitch McConnell, [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein, Joe Biden, [former House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi, all of them: know when to walk away," she continued.

"We have huge issues that need new solutions, we need new generational leaders," the former United Nations ambassador and Republican presidential candidate declared.

"We have huge issues that need new solutions, we need new generational leaders. We appreciate your service. We appreciate what you’ve done. But this is why we will fight for term limits. We’ve got to get it done in America," she insisted.

Fall left McConnell with concussion and broken rib

The Post noted that Haley made headlines in February when she suggested that politicians over the age of 75 should face "mandatory mental competency tests."

This was not McConnell's only recent health concern, as in March he suffered a fall at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.

McConnell, who had been attending a private dinner event, was left with a concussion as well as a broken rib following the incident.
