Billionaire entrepreneur and pilot Jared Isaacman made headlines earlier this year when the White House withdrew his nomination to head NASA.

However, Isaacman's chance to head America's space program was recently saved after one of President Donald Trump's top aides placed a call.

Report: Isaacman "was caught in the crossfire" of feud between Trump and Musk

That's according to the Daily Mail, which related details of behind-the-scenes White House machinations in an article published on Wednesday.

The newspaper asserted that Isaacman "was caught in the crossfire" between the president and Elon Musk following their public feud.

Isaacman is known as a longtime friend of Musk, and his Shift4 Payments point-of-sale payments company has been processing payments for Musk's Starlink internet service since 2020.

The Daily Mail cited an unnamed source as saying that former White House Personnel Office boss Sergio Gor was responsible for tanking Isaacman's nomination.

Transportation said to have leaked negative stories on Isaacman

"Sergio knifed Jared as payback for his bad feelings against Elon," the source indicated. "It was never about Jared. It was never about his qualifications.

"This was basically a plan by Sergio because he felt slighted by Elon, so he wanted to hurt Elon. Best way to do that was to take out Jared at NASA," the source added.

The Daily Mail noted how Gor has since become U.S. ambassador to India while the White House Personnel Office is now headed by Dan Scavino.

Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has also been serving as the interim NASA administrator since July, a position which some say he hoped to keep.

Source: White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles called Duffy

Axiso cited a source of its own who alleged that Duffy was attempting to prevent Isaacman from being renominated by leaking unfavorable stories to the press until White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles intervened.

The publication stated, "White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in recent days placed a 'stern but friendly call to Duffy' with a simple message: 'Knock it off,' a source said."

The Daily Mail noted that for his part, the president gave Isaacman a full-throated endorsement while posting to Truth Social earlier this week.

"Jared's passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era," Trump declared.
