Special Counsel Jack Smith issued the first-ever federal indictment of a former president, and what he did right after that has many people wondering who this guy really is.

According to an Axios report, Smith, a reported triathlete, immediately took a dip in his Bethesda, Maryland-based swimming pool following the bombshell announcement of the Department of Justice's indictment of former President Donald Trump.

Axios described him as a "super slender, grizzly bearded 54-year-old career prosecutor who has gone after war criminals, corrupt pols, and mobsters."

He also reportedly keeps a famously low profile. A recent lunch spotting of Smith was so rare that it made the water cooler talk inside the offices of the Justice Department.

More about him

Axios noted:

He’s done 100+ races across the globe since 2002. Also, nine Ironmans — and that’s just what we know as of 2018, when he dished to his swim club’s website in Nashville, where he worked in private practice and for the feds.

Jack Smith ( John L. Smith) born 1968 or 1969, Harvard Law School Summa cum Laude, served Justice Dept, head of the Public Integrity Section. Was chief prosecutor at The Hague tasked with investigating & prosecuting war crimes in Kosovo. Is a triathlete," Mia Farrow tweeted.

Smith was reportedly hit by a truck in the early 2000s and injured his pelvis. He eventually overcame the injury.

His marriage has become controversial, given that he's married to filmmaker Katy Chevigny, who took part in producing the Michelle Obama documentary “Becoming."

Chevigny and Smith came under fire this week after it was revealed that she had donated $2,000 to then-candidate Joe Biden's presidential campaign in 2020.

Trump's not a fan

Former President Trump has repeatedly torched Smith for his role as special counsel overseeing investigations related to Trump's Jan. 6 involvement and the classified documents probe.

"The prosecutor in the case, I will call our case, is a thug. I have named him 'Deranged Jack Smith,'" Trump said recently on Truth Social. "He’s a behind the scenes guy, but his record is absoltuey atrocious. He does political hit jobs."

Trump has maintained that he's innocent in all the investigations he currently faces.

Smith was reportedly present at the courthouse on Tuesday where the former president entered a "not guilty" plea for all 37 charges he faces.
