President Joe Biden received more bad news this week after a new poll showed him losing to former President Donald Trump in five of six swing states.

However, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith believes former First Lady Michelle Obama would have no such trouble. 

Smith says Mrs. Obama would win "hands down" in an election

According to The Hill, Smith made that claim during an appearance on former NBA player Kevin Garnett’s podcast, KG Certified, saying, "And I think that Michelle Obama would win right now if she were to run."

"I think that Michelle Obama would hands down be the next president of the United States if she were to run against Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee," he continued.

Yet Smith was quick to add that such a scenario "obviously is not gonna happen" as the former first lady "doesn't seem to have an interest."

The Hill noted that Mrs. Obama has herself been quick to disavow having any White House ambitions, a message which was reiterated in March by her  director of communication Crystal Carson.

"As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president," Carson was quoted as saying.

Poll shows Mrs. Obama would lose to Trump

Yet even if Mrs. Obama were inclined to launch a White House run, at least one poll suggests that she would fare no better against Trump than Biden would.

Commissioned by the Daily Mail and carried out in March by J.L.Partners among 1,000 likely voters, the survey showed Mrs. Obama garnering 44% of the vote compared to 47% for Trump.

When asked to select between Biden and Trump, 43% chose the current president whereas 46% preferred his predecessor.

Pollster says Mrs. Obama's candidacy "was never very realistic"

"Some have been touting an emergency parachute for Biden for some time: draft Michelle Obama," J.L. Partners co-founder James Johnson told the Daily Mail.

"But it turns out voters are no more keen to vote for Michelle over Trump than they are for Biden, with Trump beating her overall and even with independents," he continued.

"It was never very realistic, but this poll puts paid to the idea she can be any kind of saving force for the Democrats," the pollster went on to add.
