State Senator in Georgia Takes Initial Impeachment Step Against Trump's Fulton County Prosecutor

On Thursday, Republican state senator Colton Moore of Georgia took the first step toward impeaching Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for her activities against former President Donald Trump, as evidenced by a letter acquired by Breitbart News.

Moore wrote to Republican Governor Brian Kemp to propose holding an immediate special session to investigate Willis's behavior. A Georgia grand jury handed out 13 indictments against Trump on Tuesday.

The inquiry may cause Willis's investigation of Trump to lose funds and/or result in the impeachment of the district attorney.

“We must strip all funding and, if appropriate, impeach Fani Willis,” Moore said in a statement.

“As a Georgia State Senator, I am officially calling for an emergency session to review the actions of Fani Willis,” he said. “America is under attack. I’m not going to sit back and watch as radical left prosecutors weaponize their elected offices to politically target their opponents.”

From the Letter

There are two possible triggers for a special session of the Georgia legislature: The governor has the authority to convene a special session first. Second, if a majority of legislators in each house sign a letter demanding an investigation of Willis's behavior, an extraordinary session can be summoned.

Breitbart News has received an exclusive letter from Moore to Kemp demonstrating the latter strategy at work:

We, the undersigned, being duly elected members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate, and comprising 3/5 of each respective house, pursuant to Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), hereby certify to you, in writing, with a copy to the Secretary of State, that in our opinion an emergency exists in the affairs of the state, requiring a special session to be convened under that section, for all purposes, to include, without limitation, the review and response to the actions of Fani Willis.

Campaign Insider's Take

Cliff Maloney, a campaign veteran who manages America First Georgia campaigns, told Breitbart News that Moore's initiative to fight back against Willis is the sole initiative in Georgia to prevent Trump's prosecution.

“Finally, a leader who is stepping up and fighting back against the epidemic of corrupt District Attorney’s that are drunk on power,” he said.

“Colton Moore is an absolute patriot,” he added. “He must win this battle and I encourage every liberty loving American to support him.”

The thirteen charges against Trump are grave. If convicted of each charge and sentenced consecutively, he could face a maximum of 76.5 years in state prison.

“The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office clearly decided to force through and rush this 98-page indictment,” Trump said in a statement.

“This one-sided grand jury presentation relied on witnesses who harbor their own personal and political interests — some of whom ran campaigns touting their efforts against the accused and/or profited from book deals and employment opportunities as a result,” he added.
