Supreme Court blocks Trump from deporting Venezuelan gang members

President Donald Trump has had a relatively tough time enforcing his border agenda due to what seems like constant interference from the federal judiciary, and now the U.S. Supreme Court is stepping in.

According to the Daily Mail, the high court intervened this week in the worst possible way for the Trump administration, blocking him from deporting any additional alleged Venezuelan gang members.

The issue specifically dealt with the Venezuelan gang members being held at the Bluebonnet Detention Center. The high court ruled that "until further order of this court," no more of them will be moved out of the country.

The ruling was definitely a blow to the Trump administration's continued efforts to deport as many foreign gang members as possible.

What's going on?

The high court's ruling came as a response to an emergency appeal filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The ACLU claimed that it appeared the Trump administration restarted its program to remove said migrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

The Daily Mail wrote:

Lawyers for the ACLU filed urgent requests on Friday in multiple courts, including the Supreme Court, urging immediate action after reporting that some of the men had already been loaded onto buses and were told they were to be deported.

The Daily Mail added:

The Supreme Court said earlier this month that deportations could proceed only if those about to be removed had a chance to argue their case in court and were given 'a reasonable time' to contest their pending removals.

The Alien Enemies Act of 1798 has only been used a few times in U.S. history, and was last used during World War II. Its use has also sparked massive legal battles and outrage from the left.

Only two of the conservative justices on the high court, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, dissented in the high court's final ruling on the matter.

Social media reaction

Plenty of Trump's supporters weighed in on the matte, and many of them were not happy with the conservative justices who agreed in the fial ruling.

"Unacceptable. The people should be their first priority! Shame on you , Supreme Court!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Why is the Supreme Court against US citizens?"

It'll be interesting to see how the conservative majority high court rules in similar matters in the near future.
