Supreme Court reinstates pro-Republican congressional maps
The justices of the U.S. Supreme Court just resintated Texas' new congressional maps.
The Daily Caller reports that the high court did so on Friday.
This is being considered as a win for Republicans, for the new maps, which are supported by President Donald Trump, are likely to net them more congressional seats. The ruling, however, may just be temporary.
Supreme Court allows Texas redistricting and gerrymandered maps to proceed.
SCOTUS on Friday temporarily blocked a lower court’s ruling which had halted the new congressional maps.
This was expected. SCOTUS is expected to allow the maps permanently.
Win for MAGA!

The ruling
It was Justice Smauel Alito who issued the ruling.
Just the News explains:
The United States Supreme Court on Friday night temporarily blocked a lower court order that found Texas’ 2026 congressional redistricting map was likely unconstitutional because it was likely racially gerrymandered. The order was signed by Justice Samuel Alito, who oversees emergency appeals from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and will remain in place for at least a few days while the court considers whether to allow the new map to be used in the midterms.
Alito's order was brief.
The justice wrote that the lower court's ruling "is hereby administratively stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the Court."
Alito has given the other side until Nov. 24, 2025, to respond. The thing to emphasize here is that Friday's order is not a ruling on the merits of the congressional map.
Background
The Hill fills in the background of this case.
Per the outlet:
Texas Republicans passed the new map earlier this year after pressure from President Trump to boost the GOP’s chances of keeping control of the House in the midterms. It sparked a mid-decade redistricting arms race that has led to new maps in places like California and North Carolina.
Recently, a lower court struck the map down, which led to an appeal from Texas.
The outlet continues:
Earlier this week, a panel of federal judges ruled 2-1 that Texas’s new map was likely a racial gerrymander and blocked the state from using it. It spurred Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to file an emergency appeal at the Supreme Court earlier Friday evening.
In that appeal, Texas wrote, "The confusion sown by the district court’s eleventh-hour injunction poses a very real risk of preventing candidates from being placed on the ballot and may well call into question the integrity of the upcoming election."
