A publicist for pop star Taylor Swift responded to rumors concerning a secret marriage to Joe Alwyn in 2020.

Tree Paine, Swift's spokesperson, claimed "enough is enough" in pushing back on the inaccuracy.

The statement

“Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi,” Paine wrote in response to the Instagram gossip account.

“There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these.”

The background

"Swift and Alwyn dated for six years before breaking up this April. It was one of the star's more private relationships, though songs like 'Lavender Haze' and 'Delicate' seem to contain oblique references," Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Swift has since started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in a relationship that has garnered much media attention — probably too much," it continued.

The facts

"While they were frequent subjects of engagement rumors, the couple never confirmed them, with Alwyn outright telling The Wall Street Journal," Elle reported.

“If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins. I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say," it noted.

The Instagram behind the ongoing rumor, Deuxmoi, is known for sharing gossip from followers and their own mix of fact and fiction.

The latest claim that Swift and Alwyn were secretly married in 2020 or 2021 in the U.K. was too much for Swift's publicist, however, leading to a strong condemnation from the pop star's staffer.

The new focus for Swift has been on her past year's soaring success over the past year with her massive concert tour and film, along with her recent relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs. The gossip is likely to continue for the pop star but at least one rumor has been given the official shutdown from Swift's insider PR leader.
