Texas Capitol briefly shut down due to threats against lawmakers
The looming threat of the "No Kings" protest spurred preventive safety actions across the nation, including at the Texas Capitol, where the governor ensured that those who work there would be safe, just in case.
According to Breitbart, on Saturday, law enforcement officers shut down the Texas Capitol after a threat against lawmakers emerged. The complex was locked down and evacuated while law enforcement dealt with the threat.
The man behind the threat was later caught by Texas state law enforcement officers at a traffic stop, according to reports.
The threat was against lawmakers who planned to attend the "No Kings" protest, and after law enforcement cleared the area, the protest was able to go on.
What's happening?
Interestingly, a traffic stop in La Grange, Texas, which is about 65 miles southeast of Austin, the state's capital, led to the arrest of the man behind the threats.
Breitbart noted:
Troopers briefly shut down and evacuated the Capitol and the grounds until the threat was resolved. Breitbart Texas’s Randy Clark is in Austin to cover the demonstration and observed the closed grounds when he arrived.
The Capitol grounds were later reopened to allow the protest to carry on after officials determined that the threat against lawmakers in attendance was no longer active.

The threat against lawmakers was taken especially seriously given that it came on the heels of an incident involving "a Minnesota man allegedly shot and killed the speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives and her husband."
Fears of violence against political figures has reached an all-time high, and authorities are not taking the situation lightly.
Social media reacts
Users across social media reacted to the news of the Texas Capitol lockdown, with many agreeing that while inconvenient for some, it's better to play it safe this day and age.
"Given what happened in Michigan, it’s better to be safe than sorry," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "With what happened in MN, no threats can be ignored any longer."
Only time will tell if more crazies come out of the woodwork during this time of heightened political tensions.
