President Donald Trump drew attention earlier this year when he tasked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with eliminating waste and fraud.

Those seeking to emulate Trump's move at the state level scored victory this week when Texas senators moved to create a similar agency.

Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office to stop waste, streamline regulations

According to Fox News, members of the Texas state Senate voted on Wednesday to pass a piece of legislation known as SB 14.

The bill would establish a Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office to root out wasteful spending and find ways to do away with unnecessary spending.

What's more, it would also create a regulatory efficiency advisory panel to review and streamline and lighten the state's regulatory burden.

Following its passage in the state Senate, SB 14 must next move to a Texas House committee before it can be voted on by lawmakers at large.

"By cutting red tape, more money stays in the pockets of taxpayers"

Fox News noted that Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is among those championing SB 14, and he hailed its passage in a statement.

"I prioritized SB 14 because President Trump’s creation of the ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ inspired me to find ways Texas can save taxpayers and businesses money by cutting burdensome regulations," Patrick wrote.

"The Texas Miracle will continue long into the 21st century because our common-sense, conservative approach to regulation will keep Texans prosperous and our economy strong," he continued.

"The Texas economy is the envy of America and the world. Texans understand that by cutting red tape, more money stays in the pockets of taxpayers," Patrick declared.

"When Texans save money, the private sector is unleashed, Texans start small businesses, jobs are created and our economy grows," the lieutenant governor went on to add.

DOGE found that children were given $330 million worth of SBA business loans

Meanwhile, DOGE also made headlines earlier this week when it was revealed that $330 million in business loans were given to children.

"A case of fraud was with the Small Business Administration [SBA], where they were handing out loans — $330 million worth of loans to people under the age of 11," Musk explained at a White House cabinet meeting. He stressed that the youngest recipient was just 9 months old.
