Tim Walz said he would 'certainly consider' running for president in 2028
On "the New Yorker Radio Hour" on Sunday, failed Democrat vice presidential candidate Tim Walz said he would "certainly consider" running for president in 2028 if he felt the conditions were right.
“Look, I never had an ambition to be president or vice president. I was honored to be asked,” the Minnesota governor said. “If I feel I can serve, I will. And if nationally, people are like, ‘Dude we tried you, and look how that worked out,’ I’m good with that.”
“If I think I could offer something … I would certainly consider that.”
At age 60, Walz has plenty of time to figure out what he wants to do in the next election.
"I'll do it"
He has already decided not to run for Senate in 2026 when current Sen. Tina Smith (D) vacates her seat to retire.
He could run for a third term as Minnesota Governor, but has not decided whether to do so yet.
About a presidential run, Walz told host David Remnick he was “not arrogant enough to believe there’s a lot of people that can do this,” but added that “if the circumstances are right” and he feels he “has the right skill set for the moment … I’ll do it.”
When Remnick pushed him further, he said, “I’ll do whatever it takes.”
"Weighs on me"
The loss weighs on him, he said as he has to watch the opposite policies of the ones he favors being implemented.
The defeat is “one I’ll take with me to the grave," he bemoaned.
“An old white guy who ran for vice president, you’ll land on your feet pretty well. But I still struggle with it … when I see Medicaid cuts happening, when I see LGBTQ folks being demonized, when I see some of this happening, that’s what weighs on me personally,” he told Remnick.
He certainly has an interesting perspective on Trump's policies and the country as a whole.
In truth, America dodged a bullet--maybe a missile--by rejecting Walz and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
She's completely inept and banal, and he's tone deaf to what America actually wants. Thank God they were defeated.
