Tim Walz slams Trump over Somali fraud claims impacting Minnesotans
Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz (D) is pointing fingers at President Donald Trump for allegedly weaponizing claims of Somali immigrant fraud to kneecap hardworking families.
This clash centers on a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) decision to halt all child care payments to Minnesota amid reports of potential fraud in childcare centers, a move Walz claims is a political stunt by Trump to hurt the state’s working class.
For Minnesota parents, this freeze isn’t just a headline—it’s a gut punch, with real financial burdens piling up as they scramble to cover child care costs out of pocket while federal funds are locked down.
Walz Fires Back at Trump’s Tactics
Walz didn’t mince words on X, responding to a Fox News post with a sharp critique of Trump’s motives.
“While Minnesota has been combating fraud, the President has been letting fraudsters out of jail,” Walz posted, adding, “Trump’s using an issue he doesn’t give a damn about as an excuse to hurt working Minnesotans.”
With all due respect to the governor, if fraud is indeed rampant, shouldn’t every taxpayer demand accountability rather than deflecting to political gamesmanship?
HHS Steps In With Tough Measures
On Tuesday, HHS dropped a bombshell, announcing a complete freeze on child care payments to Minnesota to address what they call widespread fraudulent activity.
HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill took to X with a video outlining three aggressive steps to tackle the issue, showing the feds mean business.
“Today, we have taken three direct actions against the blatant fraud that seems to be rampant in Minnesota,” O’Neill declared, signaling a no-nonsense approach that many conservatives will cheer.
Federal Actions Demand Accountability Now
O’Neill detailed the measures, including activating a “defend the spend system” for all child care payments nationwide, requiring receipts or photo proof before funds are released.
He also confirmed sending a demand letter to Walz, insisting on a comprehensive review of Minnesota’s childcare centers, covering everything from attendance records to inspection reports.
While some might call this overreach, isn’t it about time someone guarded taxpayer dollars with an iron fist instead of a rubber stamp?
Citizen Journalists Uncover Troubling Signs
Adding fuel to the fire, citizen journalist Nick Shirley released a video exposing several Minnesota childcare centers that reportedly received millions in federal aid, yet showed no signs of actual children on site.
One center, dubbed the Quality Learning Center, even had a sign misspelling “learning” as “learing”—a small but telling detail that raises eyebrows about oversight.
Meanwhile, Breitbart News reporter Warner Todd Huston highlighted similar concerns raised by other independent journalists in states like Ohio, Maine, and Pennsylvania, suggesting this issue might stretch far beyond Minnesota’s borders.
