Although Tom Hanks is one of Hollywood's most well known figures, the actor is rarely seen with his son, rapper Chet Hanks.

That's why some fans were stunned last week after the younger Hanks released a photo of himself alongside his legendary father.

"Father-son selfie" posted online

According to the website GH, Chet Hanks posted a "rare father-son selfie" photo on his Instagram account this past Wednesday alongside a caption which read, "Gang."

Chet Hanks gained prominence in 2021 when he released the rap song "White Boy Summer." The accompanying music video featured him wearing a shirt that read "Stop Hate" and contained shots of a Jamaican flag.

Yet Men's Health reported in July of last year that the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson said in a social media post he has been rethinking his faith and identity.

Chet Hanks says his purpose is "serving God"

"I have been in character for as long as I’ve been in the public eye. I've played many roles and worn many masks," Hanks began.

Actor. Rapper. Fitness guy. Lambo guy. None of them are the real me," he continued before adding, "But the more I look around at the world I see that the world doesn’t need any more caricatures."

"False depictions of who we think we need to be... There’s only one thing the world needs more of and that's God," Hanks insisted.

"All the pain in my life has resulted from one thing — the lie of believing that my purpose is anything but just serving God," the celebrity declared.

"It's not fully clear to me yet how I can best serve Him but I feel that this level of honesty is a starting point. And I know He will continue to reveal more," Hanks concluded.

All of Tom Hanks' children are in show business

GH noted that Chet isn't the only one of Tom Hanks' children to work in show business, as all of his siblings do as well.

"It's what all of our kids grew up in," the website quoted Tom Hanks as saying last year. "We have four kids, they're all very creative, they're all involved in some brand of storytelling."

"And if we were a plumbing supply business, or if we ran the florist shop down the street, the whole family would be putting in time at some point, even if it was just inventory at the end of the year," he said.
