ABC News reports that actor Tom Sizemore, known for his role in Saving Private Ryan, has died at the age of 61.

The news of Sizemore's passing was revealed by Sizemore's representative, Charles Lago.

"It is with great sadness and sorrow I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore ('Tom Sizemore') aged 61 passed away peacefully in his sleep today at St Joseph’s Hospital Burbank," Lago said.

Lago said that, at the time of Sizemore's passing, Sizemore's "brother Paul and twin boys Jayden and Jagger, 17, were at his side."

What happened?

Lago, in his statement, goes on to reveal the cause of Sizemore's death and the circumstances that led up to it.

Lago said:

In the early hours of Saturday, February 18, 2023, Tom Sizemore collapsed at his Los Angeles home and was transported to a hospital by Paramedics. He was found to be suffering from a brain aneurysm that occurred as a result of a stroke.

According to Lago, since then, Sizemore never was able to recover.

"Since that day, Tom has remained in critical condition, in a coma, and in intensive care," Lago said. "Tom has remained in intensive care since that day and has not regained conciseness."

Earlier this week, doctors told Sizemore's family that there is no more hope for Sizemore's recovery, and the doctors recommended that the family make an end-of-life decision. Sizemore passed away on Friday, March 3, roughly two weeks after when he collapsed at his home.

Remembering Sizemore

Sizemore enjoyed a successful acting career, the highlight of which is considered by many to be his role in Saving Private Ryan, the 1998 film which won five Academy Awards. In this film, Sizemore played Sgt. Mike Horvath.

Saving Private Ryan, however, was far from Sizemore's only Hollywood success. He was also known for his roles in Black Hawk Down, Heat, Strange Days, and many other films.

Sizemore's career, however, ran into some trouble following issues with substance abuse and domestic abuse. He spoke about some of his issues in his 2013 memoir By Some Miracle I Made It Out of There.

Lago, in his statement, said:

Tom was one of the most sincere, kind, and generous human beings I have had the pleasure of knowing. His courage and determination through adversity was always an inspiration to me. The past couple of years were great for him and he was getting his life back to a great place. He loved his sons and his family.

Sizemore is survived by his twin children, Jagger and Jayden.
