U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) wants illegal immigrants to have the right to vote in all elections - federal, state, and local. 

This can be inferred from the fact that Raskin was one of the Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives who recently voted against a piece of legislation designed to stop noncitizens from voting in local D.C. elections.

It, however, does not need to be inferred.

This is because, according to Fox News, Raskin once wrote a paper arguing for what he referred to as "alien suffrage" - or the right of illegal aliens to vote in all U.S. elections.

It's true

Fox was able to review the paper that Raskin wrote in 1993 for the American University Washington College of Law, where he is a professor of law emeritus.

Raskin, in the paper, lays out his argument at the outset, writing:

In this Article, I will argue that the current blanket exclusion of noncitizens from the ballot is neither constitutionally required nor historically normal. Moreover, the disenfranchisement of aliens at the local level is vulnerable to deep theoretical objections since resident aliens — who are governed, taxed, and often drafted just like citizens — have a strong democratic claim to being considered members, indeed citizens, of their local communities.

In the paper, Raskin takes each point in turn.

It is unclear whether Raskin still supports the argument he put forth in this paper. He has refused to comment on recent reports about it.

Background

As the reader likely knows, illegal immigration has run rampant under the administration of President Joe Biden. The question is why Biden has allowed this to continue despite the fact that poll after poll has proven that Americans, by and large, are against illegal immigration.

Some argue that this is because Biden and the Democrats want to add illegal aliens to their voter base, making it easier for them to win elections.

Given the astronomical number of illegal immigrants that Biden has let in - multiple millions according to even the most conservative estimates - if even a percentage of this group voted in an election it could sway the election one way or the other.

There, of course, are those on the political left who would label this as some kind of right-wing conspiracy theory.

But, the logic of the idea is undeniable, and the fact that Raskin and over 100 other House Democrats recently voted against a measure stopping non-citizens from voting in D.C. elections says a lot.
