Top Harris-Walz aide decries public polls, calls Trump voters 'incels'

Panic may be setting in among Democrats with three weeks to go until the 2024 presidential election, if comments by a top advisor are any indication.

David Plouffe, the top advisor to the campaign of Democrat presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and vice presidential nominee Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, said Sunday on the "Pod Save America" podcast that public polls were mostly "horses**t" and called potential Trump voters "incels."

“I really can’t speak to the public polls. I spend very little time looking at them,” Plouffe said on the former President Barack Obama alum podcast. “And most of them are horses**t."

“Some of them may be close, but, generally, I’d say any poll that shows Kamala Harris up 4 to 5 points in one of these seven [swing] states, ignore it. Any point that shows Donald Trump up like that, ignore it,” Plouffe said.

Not much movement

Plouffe also said that a well-run campaign only moves the dial one-half to one point in an election, despite the fact that campaigns and other groups spend billions on them.

A record-breaking $15,9 billion in campaign spending is projected for the 2024 election season; in 2020, $15.1 billion was spent.

In this election, though, that tiny margin may prove quite decisive.

"A little stronger"

Ploufee conceded that Trump is "a little stronger this time than [he] was last time.” He predicted Trump will get at least 48% of the popular vote. “It’s going to come down to a very narrow margin.”

Biden is ahead 1.5% in the Real Clear Politics national average of polling, but Trump is slightly ahead in key swing states that will ultimately decide the election.

A result where Biden wins the popular vote but Trump wins the electoral vote would follow recent elections where there was a similar discrepancy.

While Biden won both in 2020, his electoral victory was much narrower than his popular vote one.

Insulting Trump voters

The incel comment came when Plouffe was discussing early voting, which always goes more for Democrats but he felt was looking strong.

“We like what we’re seeing in early voting data so far. We particularly like what we’re not seeing on the Trump data, which is there’s not an army of kind of incels showing up,” Plouffee said.

Incel stands for "involuntary celibate" and refers to single males who have had trouble forming relationships with women. The insult is similar to Hillary Clinton calling Trump voters "deplorables" in 2016, but the comment backfired on her and actually bolstered Trump's support.
