Top staffer for Sen. Cory Booker arrested on gun charges at Capitol
Sen. Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, just set a congressional record for making the longest speech on the Senate floor as he and fellow Democrats continue to express their Trump Derangement Syndrome symptoms publicly.
According to the Daily Mail, while Booker was celebrating the record, it went unreported at the time that one of his top staffers was arrested just moments before Booker made his marathon speech.
Democratic hill worker, Kevin Batts, 59, was arrested and taken into custody at the U.S. Capitol, charged with possession of a firearm.
Batts is a retired law enforcement officer and currently serves as a special assistant to the New Jersey senator.
What happened?
Even with retired law enforcement credentials, Batts, or any other retired officer of the law, is not allowed to carry a firearm at the Capitol, as the Capitol Police made crystal clear in a statement.
"All weapons are prohibited from Capitol Grounds, even if you are a retired law enforcement officer, or have a permit to carry in another state or the District of Columbia," the Capitol Police said in a statement.
Cory Booker thought he was going to go viral for talking all night on the Senate floor, and the only thing people are talking about today is one of his staff member's arrest for carrying a gun on Capitol grounds. 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/4sQWG9qzNL

"Yesterday afternoon a Member of Congress led an IDed staff member around security screening at the Hart Senate Office Building," the statement from the Capitol Police read.
It continued, "Later that evening, outside the Senate Galleries, the IDed staff member -- who is a retired law enforcement officer -- told our officers he was armed."
It was reported that Batts has worked for Sen. Booker since 2006. Obviously, he should have known better.
Social media reacts
Many social media users reacted to the news of Batts' arrest.
"I’m having so much fun finding all the Democrats’ posts about guns and asking them why they haven’t said anything about this incident," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "My question, was @SenBooker aware his staff was carrying a gun in2 the Capitol?"
It's unclear what consequences Batts will face as a result of the gun charges. Only time will tell.
