Trump administration cites court records alleging that deported man is a domestic abuser
President Donald Trump has been harshly criticized over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an individual who was mistakenly removed to El Salvador.
However, newly released court records appear to vindicate Trump by proving that Garcia was not an innocent figure.
Court records include multiple domestic violence allegations
According to Fox News, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Wednesday that Garcia has a "history of violence and was not the upstanding ‘Maryland Man’ the media has portrayed him as."
This includes multiple allegations of domestic violence, which were leveled by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez, who sought a restraining order against him.
Vasquez asserted in a handwritten 2021 court filing that Garcia repeatedly left her bruised and bloodied and also damaged property.
"In November 2020, he hit me with his work boot. In August 2020, he hit me in the eye leaving a purple eye," she recalled while also recounting an incident in which her husband tore her clothes off.
"At this point, I am afraid to be close to him. I have multiple photos/videos of how violent he can be and all the bruises he [has] left me," Vasquez.
Maryland Democrat travels to El Salvador
Fox News noted how Garcia's case has become a major issue among Democrats, with Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen traveling to El Salvador in a failed attempt to meet with him.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia was wrongly deported to El Salvador as part of the Trump Administration’s government-funded kidnapping rampage. He is rotting away in a foreign prison where his life is in danger. We need to go there now to make sure he’s okay. https://t.co/pdfj9aYDTO

"He is rotting away in a foreign prison where his life is in danger," Frost said of Garcia. "We need to go there now to make sure he’s okay."
DHS calls Garcia a "gang member involved in human trafficking"
However, DHS pushed back with a social media post of its own that characterized Garcia as a foreign gang member who needed to be removed.
"Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not a 'Maryland Man'—he is an MS-13 gang member involved in human trafficking who entered the United States illegally," it stated.
The department further insisted that Garcia's eventual "deportation to El Salvador was always going to be the end result."
