Since taking office earlier this year, President Donald Trump has made tightening up immigration rules a major part of his agenda.

An example of that came this past week when the Trump administration ordered that a Mexican band's visas be revoked.

Music group highlighted a drug lord during concert

According to the Daily Caller, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau revealed the decision in a social media post last Wednesday.

He explained that the music group Los Alegres del Barranco had projected an image of a notorious drug lord during a concert in Mexico.

The Daily Caller reported that the band has received criticism from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who has called for an investigation.

"I'm a firm believer in freedom of expression, but that doesn’t mean that expression should be free of consequences," the Daily Caller quoted Landau as writing in his post.

Administration will not welcome "people who extol criminals and terrorists"

"A Mexican band, 'Los Alegres del Barranco,' portrayed images glorifying drug kingpin 'El Mencho' — head of the grotesquely violent CJNG cartel — at a recent concert in Mexico," he stated.

"I'm pleased to announce that the State Department has revoked the band members’ work and tourism visas,"

"In the Trump Administration, we take seriously our responsibility over foreigners' access to our country. The last thing we need is a welcome mat for people who extol criminals and terrorists," Landau went on to add.

Executive order designated drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations

The Daily Caller noted that El Mencho, whose real name is Nemesio Oseguera Ramos, leads the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Shortly after he took office, Trump signed an executive order which designated CJNG and other drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

"The Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs," it noted.

"The Cartels functionally control, through a campaign of assassination, terror, rape, and brute force nearly all illegal traffic across the southern border of the United States," the order went on to stress.
