Trump approval rating surges by 10 points this week in major daily tracking poll
Democrats and the media have done their worst to portray President Donald Trump as a uniquely unpopular political leader with broad disapproval from the American people of his policy agenda, but that isn't exactly the case.
A recent major poll showed that Trump's approval rating was in positive territory following a substantial surge in public support this week, according to the Daily Caller.
It is unclear what, if any one thing, may have resulted in the uptick in Trump's approval, but he did achieve a few notable policy and political wins this past week, to say nothing of the continuing societal fallout over the political assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and the egregiously celebratory reaction to that horrific murder from some Democrats and leftists.
10-point swing for Trump
According to the Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, President Trump enjoyed the approval of approximately 53% of likely U.S. voters, with around 46% disapproval of his job performance.
That is substantially better than Trump's numbers on Monday in that same poll, when he was logged at 48% approval and 51% disapproval.
Rasmussen's Mark Mitchell observed, "Geez. Trump +7 today. Was -3 just four days ago."
That is a 10-point swing in the president's favor, the Daily Caller noted, in that Trump went from three points underwater to seven points above water in just a matter of days.
Most other polls still show Trump underwater
To be sure, the Rasmussen poll tends to be more favorable to President Trump than other polls, and these results appear to be an outlier in comparison, unless they portend a fundamental shift in the populace that hasn't been noticed or revealed yet by the other surveys.
Indeed, according to the RealClearPolling average of presidential approval polls, Trump is currently 6.3 points underwater, with an average approval and disapproval rating of 46.3% and 52.6%, respectively.
That said, those averages may be somewhat skewed by the inclusion of a handful of recent polls that showed Trump's approval in negative territory by double digits.
What is behind this apparent surge of approval?
It is difficult to pinpoint any one thing that may have contributed to President Trump's surging approval in the Rasmussen poll, but recent posts on the White House website might indicate some of what occurred to elicit a positive reaction from the American people.
That includes a strengthening of the legal immigration system, particularly involving the H-1B foreign workers' visa; the launch of a crackdown on crime in Memphis, Tennessee; a long-overdue interest rate cut from the Federal Reserve; and the completion of a highly successful state visit to the United Kingdom.
Another probable factor, as mentioned by many commenters in response to Mitchell's post linked above, was what some described as the "Kirk effect," or the national recoiling and rightward shift of many Americans in reaction to the ghoulish celebrations and mockery of Kirk's assassination by some Democrats and leftists.
Whatever the reason for Trump's surge in approval in the Rasmussen poll, it will be interesting to see in the coming days and weeks if that was just an ephemeral blip or is more broadly reflected in the other polls.
