Following his graduation from high school in May, there has been plenty of speculation about where former first son Barron Trump, 18, will attend college in the fall.

Those rumors were ended, at least in part, by former President Donald Trump's announcement during a Tuesday night campaign rally that his youngest son had made his choice -- though that choice has not yet been publicly revealed, according to the Daily Mail.

In what was also a first that should squelch further speculation about whether he will participate in his father's re-election campaign, Barron also made his first public appearance at a political rally in support of the former president.

Barron "made his choice" about which college to attend

During a Tuesday night rally near Miami, Florida, according to the Washington Examiner, former President Trump called attention to some of his family members who were in the audience, including his youngest son Barron.

"And a very young man. This is a young man. He just turned 18," Trump said of Barron. "A very young man who’s now going to college, got into every college he wanted to, and he made his choice."

"And he’s a very good guy, I’ll tell you," he continued. "You know, I’m not allowed to call them boy, but he is my boy. He’s my boy. They’re all my boys, right? When you have sons, it could be any age. They’re your boy, they’re always going to be, and he’s a very special guy, Barron Trump!"

Barron is "pretty popular" with Trump's supporters

Former President Trump continued to call attention to his youngest son and said, "This is the first time he’s done this. Barron! Stand up, look at him."

Barron did as instructed and stood to resounding applause and cheers from the audience of his father's supporters, to which he responded with a broad smile, a wave of his hand, and a fist pump in the air.

"That’s the first time he’s done it. That’s the first time, right? You’re pretty popular," Trump said of the reaction from the crowd, then joked about his older sons, "He may be more popular than Don and Eric; we’ve got to talk about this. Hey, Don, we’ve got to talk about this, huh?"

"All right, so Barron, it’s good to have you," the former president added. "Welcome to the scene, Barron! I don’t know, he had such a nice, easy life. Now it’s a little bit changed. Anyway, special guy, right?"

Will Barron attend the RNC convention this month?

The Daily Mail reported that Barron, who was just 10 years old when his father first took office, has never before attended one of his father's boisterous rallies and has only rarely appeared at major political events like his father's first announcement of his 2016 candidacy and the Republican National Conventions in 2016 and 2020.

Barron was invited earlier this year to serve as a delegate for Florida at the GOP nominating convention in mid-July, along with several other members of the Trump family, but ultimately declined that invitation because of an unspecified prior obligation, according to The Hill.

In a statement from her office, the former first lady Melania Trump said at the time, "While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments."
