Despite a mountain of legal issues, former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the polling for the GOP primaries, leaving his closest competitors behind by double digits in all cases. 

According to Breitbart, Trump is also enjoying a lead over President Joe Biden and Green Party presidential candidate Cornell West in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.

The latest national Emerson College poll gave Trump a lead over Biden for the White House. Most polls have the two leaders in close, head-to-head contests.

A growing number of Democrats are becoming increasingly concerned about West, given those who support him will likely take away votes that could have gone to Biden in a potentially razor-sharp competition.

The numbers

While Trump dominates his GOP opponents by wide margins, the national polling for the election is a little tighter.

Still, the poll revealed that "42 percent of registered voters would vote for Trump in that scenario, placing him a point above Biden at 41 percent," Breitbart noted.

West was able to peel off 5% of support from registered voters, while 13%, which will be a critical voting bloc, remain "undecided."

When West is taken out of the equation, it shows Trump still on top, but by less than 1%, proving that West's candidacy is quite the thorn in the side of the 2024 Biden campaign.

Breitbart noted:

A hypothetical head-to-head matchup shows Trump with a razor-thin .7 percentage point lead without rounding, but for rounding purposes, they are tied at 44 percent. Twelve percent of respondents are up for grabs in that scenario.

Others drop

Trump's commanding lead in the primary polls has, so far, remained untested and consistent. The same can't be said, however, for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who has slid down in the polls since earlier this year when he was the clear second-place candidate and a formidable challenge for the former president.

In many of the latest polls, Vivek Ramaswamy has comfortably claimed the second-place position, with many predicting he'll climb higher after the first GOP primary debate.

There's no doubt at this point that Democrats and the Biden campaign are worried sick that they don't have a strong enough candidate to beat Trump, or whoever grabs the 2024 Republican nomination.
