Trump blasts Democrats for releasing his tax returns

Former president and current 2024 Republican primary candidate Donald Trump has released a new campaign video, which he used to blast Democrats for releasing his tax returns from 2015 to 2020 publicly against his will.

Trump called the action an "outrageous abuse of power," "unconstitutional," and said that the returns show how successful he has been.

“There is no legitimate legislative purpose for their action, and if you look at what they’ve done, it’s so sad for our country,” he said.” “It’s nothing but another deranged political witch-hunt, which has been going on from the day I came down the escalator in Trump Tower.”

“Although these tax returns contain relatively little information and not information that almost anybody would understand — they’re extremely complex — the radical Democrats’ behavior is a shame upon the U.S. Congress,” Trump added.

Going after Biden

He then called for Republicans to pursue and release President Joe Biden's financial records:

The new Republican House should immediately obtain the financial records of Joe Biden and his entire criminal enterprise because that’s exactly what it is. Biden is a corrupt politician who spent years selling out America all over the world, including to Communist China. Just take a look at his accounts, take a look at all of his homes, and take a look at what his son, Hunter, has contributed to the family. The American public deserves to know the truth. We should also get to the bottom line on how Biden, on a salary of a U.S. Senator, was able to buy one mansion after another, all these different locations.

When I’m president, we will expose the Washington cartel, and we will Make America Great Again.

Biden has released his tax returns publicly since becoming a candidate in 2020, but may not have been forthcoming about some of his financial dealings prior to that time, if documents found on Hunter Biden's laptop are true.

Why release Trump's records?

House Democrats won a years-long battle in the courts to gain access to Trump's returns and other financial documents, then decided on Tuesday to release the returns to the public before Republicans took power in the House in January.

Trump is the first president in many years not to release his tax returns to the public, but he is also the richest president in many years as well.

The returns released showed that for several tax years, Trump paid very little or nothing in taxes, even though he had millions in income (and also large losses). In other years he paid close to $1 million in taxes.

Democrats seem to think that if the public knew how little he paid, they would be angry, but for many Republicans, being able to screw over the IRS is a badge of honor.

The real outrage

So far, there does not seem to be much outrage over Trump's taxes, much to the chagrin of Democrats.

In fact, people seem far angrier that they released the returns for no reason over Trump's vehement objections than about anything that was actually in them.
