Trump brings back his 'maximum pressure' directive toward Iran

America's adversaries, especially Iran, had been given a free pass for the most part by former President Joe Biden and his administration. But that time has ended.

According to Fox News, President Donald Trump announced this week that he's reinstating his "maximum pressure" campaign regarding Iran.

The president signed an executive order making it official, which happened to come at the same time Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump expressed how "tough" the EO is against Iran and admitted that he didn't really want to do it, but obviously felt as if he had no choice at this stage in the game.

What's going on?

During a meeting with reporters, Trump told them, "Hopefully, we're not going to have to use it very much," referencing the "maximum pressure" campaign that he deployed during his first term in the White House.

He added, "They're very strong right now, and we're not going to let them get a nuclear weapon," later noting at a joint presser with Netanyahu that they believe Iran is "close" to developing a nuclear weapon.

Trump vowed that America would never let the nation develop one.

The "pressure" is primarily economically related, specifically targeting Iran's oil exports.

Fox News noted:

The order instructs the Treasury Department to execute "maximum economic pressure" upon Iran through a series of sanctions aimed at sinking Iran’s oil exports.

His first administration also adopted a "maximum pressure" initiative against Tehran, issuing greater sanctions and harsher enforcement for violations.

Social media reacts

Plenty of social media users reacted to Trump's announcement regarding his stance on Iran, with many praising him for the economic actions against the country.

"This is what we voted for. No funds for terror. Peace through strength," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Thank you @POTUS for taking action against the regime in Iran. We need #maximumpressure on the Islamic regime in Iran and #maximumsupport for the Iranian people."

It's about time Iran is once again forced to question its actions.
