Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders travel to Washington on Monday for a meeting with President Donald Trump.

What's more, Trump confirmed that he also had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of his efforts to broker a peace deal.

Trump talks up possible meeting with Putin and Zelenskyy

According to Breitbart, Trump disclosed having the conversation with Putin in a post which he put up on his Truth Social platform.

"At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy," he wrote.

"After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself," Trump continued.

"Again, this was a very good, early step for a War that has been going on for almost four years. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, are coordinating with Russia and Ukraine," he stressed.

Trump: "Putin wants to find an answer"

Euronews reported that Trump also voiced optimistic sentiments when speaking with reporters about Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, "I've known him for a long time, I've always had a great relationship with him."

"I think that President Putin wants to find an answer too and we'll see in a certain period of time, not very far from now, a week or two weeks, we're going to know whether or not we're going to solve this," he asserted.

The president then went on to declare that he and the other leaders will "do our best to get it ended, and I believe we have two willing parties."

Breitbart reported that Trump is not alone in expressing hope for the future, as Missouri Republican Rep. Mark Alford did so as well during a Monday appearance on Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria."

Congressman predicts that Zelenskyy "is going to have to make a deal"

Alford told host Cheryl Casone that Trump is on track to score a "big win" as Zelenskyy "is going to have to make a deal" in ending his country's war with Russia.

"Obama pretty much gave up all of Crimea and with nothing, with no retaliation whatsoever on the part of Ukraine and any support from the U.S.," Alford  recalled.

"I believe Zelensky is going to have to make a deal at some point, and we’re still going to have to keep Vladimir Putin at bay to make sure that he does not have any further aggressions into the Balkans," he added.
