Trump cancels second Iowa rally after altercation with former governor

A huge presidential campaign rally in Iowa is scheduled for the end of the month, but former President Donald Trump will not be there.

As Trump's rivalry with Reynolds continues and Christie campaigns in New Hampshire, neither the 77-year-old 2024 Republican front-runner nor the former New Jersey governor are slated to participate in Gov. Kim Reynolds' "Fair Side Chats" at the Iowa State Fair, according to The New York Post.

“President Trump looks forward to interacting with tens of thousands of Iowans at the fair in an open and unfiltered setting,” campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told The Post of the apparent snub to Reynolds.

More on the Event

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.

Former governors of Arkansas and North Dakota, respectively, as well as the current mayor of Miami, Doug Burgum, and Asa Hutchinson, as well as radio host Larry Elder, former representative Will Hurt, businessman Ryan Binkley, and entrepreneur Perry Johnson will join Reynolds at the annual celebration.

“I am so proud that I get to have the opportunity to introduce these candidates to Iowans at an event so near and dear to my heart,” Reynolds said in a statement.

“The Iowa State Fair showcases the best of Iowa — from our people to our culture and wonderful agriculture industry — and it’s the perfect venue for a conversation with the candidates.”

Christie has shown little enthusiasm for Iowa, putting his hopes primarily on the more moderate voters of New Hampshire.

“We don’t have an Iowa operation and we don’t have any plans to have an Iowa operation, nor do we have any immediate plans to go there,” Christie spokesman Karl Rickett told Politico on Monday.

Trump's Movements

On the other side, Trump has visited Iowa several times and leads in the most recent RealClearPolitics survey in the state.

Eight years ago, the then-president came to the fair and made headlines by giving kids rides in his helicopter.

Reynolds has been reported to be warming up to his closest competitor, Ron DeSantis, which has irritated the GOP frontrunner.

After Reynolds failed to show up to Trump's rally in Council Bluffs earlier this month, the president took to Twitter to express his displeasure.

While her team insisted to the New York Times that she was not invited, Trump's team argued that she is always welcome to attend his events as she has a standing invitation.
