Trump claims AG Bondi never briefed him on whether his name is in the Epstein files
President Donald Trump is now claiming that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi never briefed him on whether or not his name his present in the infamous files of Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump, according to the Daily Mail, indicated as much when speaking to reporters on Friday.
This has struck many as surprising. Wouldn't you want to know, as the sitting president, whether or not your name comes up in such a document?
Q: Were you briefed on your name appearing in the Epstein files ever?
TRUMP: No, I was never briefed. No. pic.twitter.com/VE6jWMehzB

He was never briefed??
This comes from the press briefing Trump gave after he landed in Scotland. There, a reporter asked him whether or not he has been briefed on whether or not his name is in the Epstein files.
"No, I was never briefed. No," he said.
This contradicts recent reporting.
ABC News reports:
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Attorney General Pam Bondi and her deputy Todd Blanche informed President Donald Trump in May that his name appeared multiple times in the government's files on Jeffrey Epstein that the Department of Justice and the FBI reviewed.
This, however, is not the reason why the Trump administration has chosen not to release the Epstein files. Rather, ABC reports, "The officials told Trump of their plan not to release any additional documents, the report says, because the material contained child pornography and the personal information of victims."
Interestingly, none of this was made public until about July.
Trump doubles down
This is not the first time that Trump was asked the question of whether or not Bondi told him about his name appearing in the Epstein files.
A little over a week ago, Trump was asked the same question, and he replied, "No, no, she's -- she's given us just a very quick briefing."
The official position of Bondi and the Department of Justice is essentially that there is nothing to see in the Epstein files.
In a statement, the department said:
The DOJ and FBI reviewed the Epstein Files and reached the conclusion set out in the July 6 memo. Nothing in the files warranted further investigation or prosecution, and we have filed a motion in court to unseal the underlying grand jury transcripts. As part of our routine briefing, we made the President aware of the findings.
Trump and his administration have been trying to move the country on from the Epstein situation, but he has received significant pushback, including from his base.
