Donald Trump congratulated new Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on winning the gavel on Wednesday, one day after putting the final nail in Rep. Tom Emmer's (R-MN) coffin, as Breitbart News reported

"Congratulations to Rep. Mike Johnson," Trump said. He will be a GREAT 'SPEAKER.' MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Former President Donald Trump urged House Republicans on Wednesday to quickly rally behind Johnson who was nominated for speaker of the House on Tuesday evening.

Trump's Support for Johnson

President Trump weighed in on Truth Social on October 25 after House Republicans completed their fourth speaker nomination vote since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted, praising each of the five nominees.

“Congratulations to Congressional Republicans! Yesterday was a big and very important day. It gave us a quick and easy way forward with 5 candidates who are beyond reproach, and represent the absolute best there is in the Republican Party.

"Even the Fake News Media is impressed with what took place yesterday and, more importantly, with the Candidates themselves," he said.

The president went on to congratulate the candidates, including Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Mark Green (R-TN), Roger Williams (R-TX), and Johnson, whom he referred to as the "ultimate winner of yesterday's vote and GOP candidate."

President Trump stated that he would not endorse a candidate in this race because "I COULD NEVER GO AGAINST ANY OF THESE FINE AND VERY TALENTED MEN, all of whom have supported me, in both mind and spirit, from the very beginning of our GREAT 2016 Victory."

The former president concluded his remarks by recommending lawmakers move quickly, which they eventually did: "My strong SUGGESTION is to go with the leading candidate, Mike Johnson, & GET IT DONE, FAST!"

Trump Stood Against Emmer

President Trump opposed House Majority Whip Tom Emmer's (R-MN) bid for Speaker of the House on Oct. 24, despite previously stating that he would not be involved in the selection of the next Speaker of the House.

In a previous post, President Trump stated, "I have many wonderful friends vying for the position of House Speaker, including some truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, whom I am unfamiliar with, is not among them. He never understood the significance of a Trump endorsement or the scope of "Make America Great Again!"

Emmer announced his withdrawal from the race late on October 24 after failing to secure the 217 votes required to become speaker.

Trump went on to assert that Mr. Emmer "actually spent more time defending Ilhan Omar than he did me—He is totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters."

Before the vote to put him into office, Johnson promised he would restore America's trust in Congress to implement government reform.

"I’m honored to have the support of my colleagues," Johnson told reporters. "This is servant leadership. We’re going to serve the people of this country. We’re going to restore their faith in this Congress, this institution of government. America is the last best hope of man on the earth."
