Trump could oversee largest US land purchase in history if he buys Greenland

President-elect Donald Trump has millions of his supporters across the country excited about what he'll do in his second, non-consecutive term in the White House, and perhaps the most interesting idea involves another nation.

According to the New York Post, Trump could very well go down in the history books for being the president who oversaw the largest land acquisition in United States history if his idea regarding purchasing Greenland comes to fruition.

The purchasing of Greenland would swamp the largest U.S. land purchase in history, the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.

That purchase alone nearly doubled the size of the United States overnight.

What's going on?

The president-elect isn't joking about buying the massive, Arctic island, noting in several posts the strategic importance of acquiring it, specifically for national security reasons.

"For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity," Trump recently wrote.

It appears as if Trump is already putting in place the pieces necessary to make the deal, including his choice of ambassador to Denmark, the country currently controlling the frigid, largely unpopulated island.

The Post noted:

Trump, 78, on Sunday added steam to his push to acquire the Arctic island when he announced PayPal cofounder Ken Howery as his pick to be the US ambassador to Denmark, which has controlled the mammoth territory for more than 300 years.

The outlet added:

Greenland’s 836,330 square miles slightly exceed the 827,987 square miles that America gained with the Louisiana Purchase, a deal struck between then-President Thomas Jefferson and France.

Greenland is currently home to a population of about 56,000 residents, most of which are Inuit.

Picking up where they left off

Trump was ridiculed into the ground in 2019 when he first floated the idea of purchasing Greenland, and was often mocked for it across the mainstream media.

However, even then, the puzzle pieces were slowly being put into place by the administration, only to run out of time with President Joe Biden's 2020 election win.

"We were moving quickly on these things up until the final days,” former Treasury Department official Thomas Dans said. "Our hope was the Biden administration would pick up on this. We were poised to do something."

Greenland, especially with today's technology, would be a massive advantage for the United States on the world stage. If anyone can make it happen, our money is on Trump.
